Lighted: Angels Among Us Theater

I’ve used repro vintage image of an angel and created a special theater – it lights up! She floats in the heavens with white guassian clouds surrounding her. In back of the theater, I’ve installed a set of miniature, battery-operated lights. The switch is easily accessible in back of the piece. A small door enables you to take it out and change the batteries, if necessary.

Her shawl is wrapped in tulle and she holds several vintage millinery flowers. Gold Dresden accents the top and bottom of this theater, and I’ve added the words “Angels Among Us,” along with a vintage style illustration, at the bottom. At the top, I’ve added a vintage gold medallion and a tiny vintage angel, that I’ve glittered. She holds sheet music. On either side, gold velvet leaves and beaded wire accent the curtains.

In her room above the city of Paris, a woman and a man share a stolen moment of love and admiration. Who are they? Is she part of the French monarchy and he a secret lover? Or is she a wealthy American woman in Victorian times come to see the latest in French fashion with her husband? You decide.

This theater was created on a gallery wrapped canvas using decorative paper from Bali as the frame and an illustrated reproduction of the French city as the backdrop. Teal, gold, creams and browns dominate the piece. The couple (Victorian scrap reproduced from my collection) recline on a robin’s egg blue, fabric chaise lounge. The gold curtains float outside the frame, while the “chandelier” with it’s three candles and hanging crystals “illuminates” their evenings. It measures 11”x14” and has a hanger on the back. All has been sealed.
